Mettle Correspondence
When a young person joins Mettle, they are given the opportunity to sign up to the resettlement programme. Upon release they are linked with a local church which, through a small group of volunteers will care for and support the young person.
After an assessment the young person will be paired up with a suitable mentor from their local church. The mentor visits the young person whilst they are still in custody and the relationship will grow through letter writing.
Through letters, the young person will be provided with support, encouragement and a positive role model. The mentor uses Mettle resources as part of their daily prayer and Bible study. These can be discussed between mentor and mentee in their letters as the basis for spiritual mentoring.
All the letters are sent via the Reflex post office box. This allows the resettlement coordinator to monitor correspondence where necessary and ensures that addresses remain confidential.
