Resettlement

Reflex has been developing a programme that reintegrates young ex-offenders into society through the local church. This programme is a component of the discipleship programme ‘Mettle’ and is called ‘Mettle: Caring for ex-offenders.’

Churches are initiating support groups within their congregations who are caring for young ex-offenders upon their release and empowering them to live more fruitful lives spiritually, mentally and physically.

Whilst still in custody, young offenders on the Mettle course have the opportunity to sign up for the Mettle Caring for Ex-Offenders programme and a relationship is birthed primarily through ‘Mettle correspondence’. Upon their release the young ex-offender starts meeting with the support group, becoming part of the church community.

As always we need churches to become ‘Mettle churches’ that can start support groups for young ex-offenders. The support groups will consist of:

  • A holistic mentor who will coordinate the support of the young ex-offender and meet with them regularly
  • A friend
  • A practical supporter, assisting them with issues of employment, benefits, accommodation, etc.

"I am delighted that Reflex as a faith-based initiative is actively involved in the important resettlement of offenders in NW prisons by providing valuable avenues of support for individuals to resettle effectively back into local communities."
